The Brew School

The Brew School, as its name suggests, is a place where people can come to learn about beer and the processes used to make it.  The project is located on Canal Street in what is currently an empty lot.  The building consists of three boxes oriented in relation to the three unique angles of the site.  The boxes are suspended above faceted glass, which allows for people to see into the public spaces occupying the first floor.  The Brew School has a brewery, a bar, a store that sells both beer produced on site as well as other select craft beers, classrooms, a lecture hall, and a special event space.  The fenestration of the building is a continuous cut through the boxes.  Rectangles are etched into the glass to further regulate the light and to visually pull the tops and bottoms of the boxes together.  The glass on the ground floor creates two separate spaces, one for the more public spaces and one for the brewery.  This split is carried into the boxes, with the more public spaces occupying the southern part of the building, and the educational and administrative spaces in the northern section.
