Alphabet City Marriage Center

Situated at the corner of 10th Street and Avenue D, the project called for a nondenominational ceremony space exclusively lit by daylight.  The Alphabet Marriage Center, as the name implies, offers a place for couples of any or no faith to get married, a library with resources on marriage, and a counseling service for those looking for marriage advice of all kinds.  The building features three distinct pieces: the front bar featuring the counseling offices, a corridor space featuring selections of art that reflect married life and allows for reflection or gatherings, and the circular ceremony hall, floating above the library space. The ceremony space features a combination of exterior wrapping louvers and a vertical pattern that creates a unique filtration of light depending on both time of day and season.  The outside features a courtyard perfect for event following ceremonies in the warmer months.
