Louver House Study

Each group was assigned a building and were asked to interpret, through drawing, the construction techniques used.  This building, Louver House by Leroy Street Studio, was completed in 2007 in Wainscott, New York.  It is a modern take on a barn-style structure, outfitted as a residential building.

This exercise examines the construction of the house from multiple scales; from basic floor plans to more detailed sections, and finally intricate elevations.  The focus is put on the element that the house is named for, the louvers that wrap the house.  These louvers confuse the reading of solid and void, allowing it to read as a solid rectangular box, when in fact a number pieces are removed.
