School Annex
The final project called for the use of shipping containers as a module from which to derive the form. The form retains the modularity of the container and its long, narrow form in more private and individual spaces, while also breaking down the box and making the building read as a single entity in the public spaces. To further deconstruct the shipping container, it was clad in horizontal wood members, in contrast to the steel, vertical bands of a typical shipping container. A small pool is placed on the south side as both a place for relaxation and to establish the permanence of the structure, as shipping containers imply temporariness.
