Hyde Park Hotel
This semester long project called for a hotel sited in Hyde Park, Chicago, across the street from the Museum of Science and Industry. The project began by taking a number of common building forms from around the area and combining them to create the overall plan. This combination mimics how these plans are usually found, as part of a row of houses, separate on the interior but appearing as one from the exterior. Upon developing the form, it became apparent that there were two parts of the building, one that featured a strong horizontal read and contained mixed program, and one that had a strong vertical read, and was predominantly a single program. Vertical and horizontal banding was used to further emphasize these characteristics.
